SAFERSOX fresh socks provide protection against unpleasant odours thanks to an antibacterial finish that inhibits the growth of odour-causing bacteria and fungi. This technology can prevent athlete's foot and provides additional hygiene and comfort. The freshness technology used is based on recycled silver chloride and is free of nano-silver, making it both health and environmentally friendly and meeting the requirements of the relevant regulations.

The Originals in White are treated with a biocidal product. The active ingredient is silver chloride.

The Originals finish not only prevents the growth of odour-causing bacteria, but also inhibits the development of fungi. This preventive effect can help to prevent the development of athlete's foot and thus ensures additional hygiene and protection – for an all-round safe and comfortable feel.

Which active ingredient is used?

The active ingredient used in the antibacterial treatment and freshness function of our Originals is silver chloride.

The manufacturer of the silver chloride used in our freshness socks is Polygiene. Polygiene is a leading supplier of odour- and freshness-retaining technologies that specialises in sustainable solutions.

How is the stay-fresh function applied to the Originals?

Polygiene silver chloride is incorporated into the textile fibres of the socks during the manufacturing process, so that the antibacterial freshness function is permanently integrated into the fibres and does not wash out even after numerous washes.

Why was Polygiene silver chloride chosen?

Polygiene silver chloride was chosen because it effectively neutralises odour-causing bacteria while being skin- and environmentally friendly. It is made from 100% recycled silver and is free from nano-silver, making it particularly safe and sustainable.

Effectiveness and Durability

How long do the antibacterial and odour-neutralising effects of the stay-fresh socks last?

The antibacterial freshness function remains effective for the entire lifespan of the Originals and does not wash out in the washing machine, provided that no fabric softener is used and the temperature does not exceed 40 degrees.

Safety and Tolerability

Is the treatment of Originals with silver chloride associated with health risks?

No, the silver treatment is done with the active ingredient developed by the Swedish company Polygiene and is harmless to health. Polygiene does not use nanosilver, which could potentially penetrate the skin. Instead, the silver ions used by Polygiene are over 100 times larger and therefore too big to penetrate the skin. Polygiene textiles have medical approval (category 1) and are also safe for direct contact with the skin.

Can the treated Originals disrupt the bacterial balance of the skin?

No. Studies have shown that the silver chloride used has no negative effects on the skin's natural bacterial flora. The silver ions are only active on the outside of the textile material and do not affect perspiration or the natural bacterial flora.

Can the treated Originals increase the risk of skin irritation or allergies?

No. The active ingredient in Polygiene is very skin-friendly and carries the medical category 1 quality seal, which is also used for products with direct skin contact, such as bandages. There is no evidence that Polygiene increases the risk of skin irritation or allergies.

Are there environmental concerns about silver ions being released during washing?

Theoretically, small amounts of silver ions may be released during washing, but these combine quickly with sulfides in the environment to form chemically stable, non-soluble silver sulfide. This does not affect living organisms and does not pollute the bacterial stages of sewage treatment plants, the treated water or the sewage sludge.

How sustainable is the technology?

Polygiene technology is highly sustainable. It uses silver chloride, which is derived from 100% recycled silver, and requires minimal amounts of it. The treatment reduces the need for frequent washing, which in turn saves water, energy and detergent. Originals socks treated with Polygiene can also be washed at a lower temperature, further reducing energy consumption. It also extends the lifespan of the socks, creating less waste.
